Nepal Flood Relief and Long-Term Strategy

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 9:00 AM, a devastating flood rushed down the Lhende Khola into the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, severely affecting the districts of Nuwakot and Rasuwa. The floods destroyed homes, marketplaces, schools, and churches. Sadly, more than 1,500 have been found dead, more than 6,000 are missing, and local reporting suggests as many as 20,000 may have died in the floods.

I contacted Paul, our ministry partner, as soon as we received word of the floods. I asked him if he felt called to help serve in the relief efforts because I’m aware that it’s not always possible for us to respond to every natural disaster. Without hesitation, Paul said, “Yes, I know God wants me to help. We just finished the first service in the new ministry center in Chitwan. The road back to Kathmandu has been destroyed, but I’m going to take the difficult mountain roads around the destroyed highway, make it back to Kathmandu, and then go on to Nuwakot and Rasuwa to serve in the wake of the destruction.”

Paul has spent more than 20 years traveling into village areas, planting and helping churches, holding children’s outreaches, serving widows, sharing the Gospel, and making disciples. Because of this, Paul has deep relationships with pastors throughout the area, including many he led to the Lord and helped plant a local church.

The flood relief immediately began flowing through the local church. Through partnership with Matthew 25 Ministries, churches, and individuals, we were able to immediately provide more than $15,000 in relief aid to Paul. This emergency relief provided food, water, first aid, solar power, and blankets to people who had lost everything: loved ones, homes, personal belongings, life savings, businesses, and churches.

Some of the people who received help hadn’t had food in several days. At one church, eight unidentified bodies were lined up with the hope that someone would be able to say goodbye to their son, daughter, or parent. Paul spent time hearing the stories of women whose husbands had died and children whose parents had died. He listened, cried, and prayed with them that somehow they would be surrounded by the presence of God in the middle of the nightmare they were living.

We began trusting God for heaven’s wisdom for a long-term strategy. As Paul spent time with flood victims and local pastors, God began to reveal opportunities to rebuild churches, homes, and lives. Three weeks later, a team from Going Global Inc. flew to Nepal to be with Paul, provide emergency flood relief, support flood victims with prayer and presence, and seek the Lord for long-term plans. God did so much during our time there, and He continues to provide.

Here are two stories I’d like to share:

Rebecca: Church Replanting

Rebecca is now a widow. She planted seven churches with her husband in Nuwakot and Rasuwa. It took only seven minutes for the floodwaters, rushing at 122 MPH, to reach the area where their home and church once stood. Her husband ran toward the riverbank with the floodwaters in sight to try to save the life of one of his church planter’s sons. The boy had just made it to higher ground, but the pastor couldn’t escape and died in the flood.

We spent time simply being present with Rebecca, hearing her story, crying, and praying together. Even in the face of unimaginable pain and loss, Rebecca was trusting God to provide safe land where they could rebuild the church for the people in that area who are now walking three to five hours just to go to church. The Lord has already provided the resources for us to help buy land, build a church, and build a home for Rebecca.

Rabindra: Church Leadership

Paul has known Rabindra for 17 years. He is currently the pastor of a church that Rebecca and her late husband planted one mile above the flood area. Rabindra’s house was on the first floor of the yellow house seen on the cover photo of this newsletter. It was destroyed, along with their personal belongings, and motorcycle, which is a vital tool in the hands of a pastor serving these villages. Walking from church to church can take five hours, while a motorcycle allows these pastors to reach churches, families, and communities much more quickly as they do the work they have given their lives to.

Rabindra now has a new calling to help serve the network of seven churches that had been led by the pastor who passed away trying to save his son’s life. Paul is going to mentor Rabindra, help him develop a robust children’s and widows’ ministry, and Rabindra will become one of Paul’s key leaders in this area. God has already provided for us to build a new house for Rabindra’s family, replace his motorcycle, and provide monthly support to help him succeed in his pastoral calling.

There is a vision report that shares more about how God is allowing Going Global Inc. to serve the long-term strategy through the local church in Nuwakot and Rasuwa. If you’d like to learn more, you can visit goingglobalinc.org/nepalflood.

Miracle Story from Myanmar

Elizabeth sent a prayer request to our prayer team for Su Nun Mang, one of the orphans at Love Children’s Home. He had been bitten by a poisonous snake. His condition went from bad to worse, and by the third day, he was dying. The doctors said there was no hope.

The news that he was near death reached us while we were in Nepal. I had missed three calls from Elizabeth. When I called her back, she was in tears, asking us to get as many people as possible praying for a miracle.

I shared the news with our team, and Paul immediately began to intercede in prayer in a way I’ve only experienced a few other times in my life. He prayed for more than an hour. Then he looked at me and said, “The Holy Spirit told me that the boy won’t die, but he will live.” He asked me to contact Elizabeth and find out how Su Nun Mang was doing. I reached out to her, and in real time, she told me, “He started talking!” We all experienced a miracle in that moment.

A few minutes later, we called Abraham. When we reached him, they were in the middle of their own intercessory prayer meeting, with all the children at Miracle Children’s Home praying together.

It reminded me of 2 Corinthians 1:10–11, “He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.”

The prayers of many went up for Su Nun Mang, and that day, he received gracious favor. Today, he is back home. Here he is!

Food For Thought

The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of the Lord look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.  Psalm 145:13-15
