Cuba: More Than the Headlines

If you’ve followed Cuba in the news, you have likely seen fuel shortages due to blockades, unemployment approaching 50%, power outages lasting more than a day, and growing frustration and despair among the Cuban people. All these hardships are real, but they only tell part of the story.

In the midst of these challenges, we are witnessing the incredible resilience of the Cuban people and the light of Christ shining brightly through the local church. We recently returned from a mission trip to Cuba, where we had the privilege of serving alongside our ministry partner, Manuel Robles, and his amazing team.

Here is a brief overview of the ministry in Cuba:

Local Church

Manuel is the lead pastor of a local church in Havana called Poder y Luz, which translates to Power and Light. While building new church buildings is restricted in Cuba, believers can transform homes into places of worship. At Poder y Luz, neighbors gather in a garage turned sanctuary to worship together, be encouraged by the Word of God, and build meaningful, life-changing relationships.

Ministry School

This year, Escuela de Evangelismo Poder y Luz (Power and Light Evangelism School) has 834 students enrolled across 50 churches throughout Cuba and celebrated the graduation of 476 students! These students are future pastors, church planters, and ministry leaders in Cuba and beyond. Many graduates are already serving in ministry around the world.

Church Planting Network

Church planting is one of the most effective ways to reach people with the Gospel. Research highlighted by Tim Keller shows that new churches reach non-Christians at significantly higher rates, especially during their first 10 years. Keller also points to research showing that planting new churches at a rate of 3% annually can triple the number of Christians in a generation. That is why we’re so excited about Cuba, where Manuel has planted more than 200 churches and leads a network of 47 churches in the Poder y Luz network. These churches are reaching communities with the Gospel and making disciples.

Children's Ministry

In 2003, Dennis Nonnemacher was preaching at the church led by the President of the Council of Cuban Churches, sharing about our work with orphans and children around the globe. Afterward, the president told Dennis, “I like you because you like children.” On the drive home, God gave Dennis a powerful revelation that the key to reaching Cuba would be through children. We have seen that vision come to life. Since then, our Cuba team has conducted 434 children’s outreach events, reaching tens of thousands of children with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Cuba Trip Report

Our mission trip to Cuba was amazing! Our team included Bob Gustafson, Betz and Mini Castro, pastors of Revelación Church in Green Bay, and Dr. Mike Staudinger, who helped found Providence Academy, a wonderful Christian school in Green Bay. A major focus of our trip was bringing medicine and providing medical clinics through churches in Cuba.

Cuba is facing a severe shortage of medicine, medical supplies, first aid materials, and even basic surgical supplies. What we discovered, however, was that there are dedicated doctors and nurses who are ready and willing to provide care through local churches, allowing them to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of their communities.

During our visit, we helped Manuel and his ministry network begin establishing this model. Together, we conducted six medical clinics in local churches, serving nearly 400 people. But this is just the beginning! We are now working to send a full shipping container filled with medicine, food, hygiene products, supplies for pastors, and other essential humanitarian aid to help these churches continue serving their communities.

We believe God is doing something extraordinary in Cuba, and we are blessed to be part of His work as we come alongside Manuel and his team. We are grateful for your partnership, which helped make this ministry possible.

Christmas Around the Globe

Christmas is a big deal in the countries where we serve. In fact, for many of our partners, Christmas is one of the few times each year where they have the freedom to openly share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Our partners have been preparing for months, planning outreaches where thousands will hear the Gospel. This is an incredible opportunity to come alongside pastors in remote areas.

Through our Going Global Inc. partners, we also care for hundreds of orphans, thousands of children, and many widows. Each Christmas, we help provide gifts, celebrations, and warm meals to remind them that they are loved and not forgotten.

For just $5, you can provide a Christmas gift and a meal for one person. For some, that might mean helping one person. For others, it might mean blessing 100 or even 1,000 people. Whatever the amount, your generosity will make a difference. Someone will be loved and reminded of the greatest gift of all: the love of Jesus Christ.

Visit www.goingglobalinc.org/give and select “Christmas.” Thank you for helping us share the joy and hope of Christmas around the world!

Clean Water in Pakistan

Anosh, our ministry partner is Pakistan, had a vision to provide clean water for five communities and two churches. Thanks to a generous donation, that vision became a reality. These wells have become gathering places where people receive much-needed clean water and experience the Living Water.

Going Global Endowment

Supports legacy giving and estate planning through three major funds:

Orphans' and Widows' Fund: Helps meet daily needs, sustain annual support, and expand partner ministries.

Church Planting and Pastors' Fund: Helps send church planters and build churches in remote areas.

Now and Forever Fund: Provides stable support for ministry operations.

Food For Thought

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” — Matthew 25:40

When we care for orphans, widows, the poor and the hurting, we touch what is close to God’s heart.

Prayer Requests

You can be an essential part of our ministry by praying for us. Prayer is a powerful weapon, and we value your prayers. If you would like us to pray for you, please email your prayer requests to us. Here are some specifics to pray for:

We thank you in advance for praying for the following:

  • Pray for your pastors and families.

  • Pray for the Christmas outreaches.

  • Pray for protection for the container that is going to Cuba.

  • Pray for harvest workers.

Ministry Goal

“And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him.” - Luke 24:31

We founded Going Global Inc. in 2007 with this ministry goal. It remains our heart today. Thank you for praying and partnering with us. Together, we can achieve much!
