Pu's Nuggets

Pu's Nuggets of Gold from God's Word and other places

You might be asking, "Who is Pu?" Well in Myanmar (formerly Burma ), I am known as Pu. It is short, in an affectionate way, for grandfather. I am called Pu Pu by the orphans I visit. My wife Robin is called Pi Pi (pronounced poo poo and pee pee) which is short for Grandpa and Grandma. The formal pronunciation is Kah Pu and Kah Pi. When the children heard what Pu Pu and Pi Pi meant in American slang, they had a good laugh and then changed it to a real short version of Pu and Pi.

So these little nuggets are Grandfather's nuggets of gold, collected from God's Word and other places. The "other places" are books, sermons, emails, music, and other places the Lord laid on my heart. Enjoy!

  • Ephesians 4:29 NCV - When you talk, do not say harmful things, but say what people need - words that will help others become stronger. Then what you say will do good to those who listen to you.

  • You get what you speak and believe!

  • My identity is in Christ and not in what I do.

  • When you are tired, worn out and think you cannot do any more, you can always do more in Christ Jesus. (By Pastor Jeff Johns)

  • If I am what God wants me to be, He will teach me what He wants me to know, and He will help me do what He wants me to do.

  • Until the pain of remaining the same hurts more than the pain of change, people prefer to remain the same!

  • Don't carry a grudge. While you're carrying that grudge, the other guy is out dancing! (By Buddy Hackett)

  • I make the choice; then God makes the change!

  • If you don't believe in God, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, but God can.
  • The world is sleeping in the night, and the church just can't fight, 'cause it's asleep in the light!

  • (Taken from a note written 5/12/95 from my granddaughter, Michelle, when she was 9 years old written to an orphan in Mexico .)

    Dear Girl 8 or 9,

My name is Michelle. Do you know that Jesus loves you? He will always love you no matter what. Did you ever ask Jesus in your hurt? (she misspelled "heart") If you didn't say, "Jesus I love You, I want You to live in my hurt,"but you have to do it from your hurt. You are one of God's family. (The mistake in spelling "heart" was really profound because we must ask Jesus into our hurts, too.)

  • Wherever we go. . . there we are! (From Joe, our son)

  • Life is a great teacher. . . providing we listen, take notes, and act upon what is learned!

  • Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so!

  • The four sweetest words in a Grandfather's ear. . . "I love you, Grandpa." ( Brittany on 9/19/01 )
