The Blood of Jesus
by Dennis Nonnemacher
Christians throughout the world talk about it, sing about it, pray about it, but few understand it. Great scholars study it, some people donate it, while others faint or cheer at the sight of it. It is unique, mysterious, precious, and powerful. It has been proven that life, both physical and spiritual, is found in it. I am referring to blood; more specifically, the blood of Jesus Christ and life it provides.
The amount of research done and information available about blood is vast. For example, we know that there are different types of blood and it is not gender or race specific. Therefore, people with the same blood type can receive blood from each other when needed. Blood can be stored and frozen for short times. We know that there are white and red corpuscles in the blood and the white corpuscles help to fight infections in the body. The entire supply of blood in our body passes through the heart and lungs every twenty-three seconds supplying oxygen. We also know that without blood, no living creature can stay alive. Within seconds the body will die if it not supplied with blood. Many diseases and cures can be quickly traced to the blood or blood flow in the body.
The church sings, prays, talk about the blood of Jesus, and spiritually cover themselves with it. Unfortunately, not many pastors teach about it in the church today. Therefore, real knowledge and understanding of it's spiritual significance
is minimal. Some pastors refuse to mention the blood or the life found in it because it may offend their congregation. They call themselves “seeker friendly" churches. They are operating under the influence of the spirit of Cain because he knew about the required blood sacrifice, yet brought God a cursed sacrifice from what grew out of the ground.
“cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art , and unto dust shalt thou return." Genesis 3:17-19
Pastors in the church today know about the blood and it's power, uniqueness and life, but refuse to teach it out of disobedience.
The bible tells us that there is spiritual life in the blood. In the Old Testament, animals were sacrificed and the blood offered so that sins of people could be forgiven:
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Leviticus 17:11
It began with Adam and Eve after they sinned in the Garden. Innocent animals had to be killed, their blood shed, in order for covering to be made to take the place of fig leaves that they used to cover their bodies. The Old Testament records that before the Israelites left Egypt , they were instructed to put the blood from a perfect lamb on the door posts and door header so that the angel of death would pass over their house while all the first born humans and animals were killed. Throughout the Old Testament we read about the priests offering sacrifices and blood of animals to appease the Lord for the sins of the people. The bigger the animal and the more blood shed, the better the sacrifice.
From the beginning of creation, God the Father had a plan to offer atonement for all mankind. It involved the sacrifice of His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, and the shedding of His blood. Christians today believe eternal life if found in Christ's blood shed on Calvary as well as atonement for mankind's sins for those who receive it in faith.
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1:7 )
"Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us ." Hebrews 9:12
The blood of Jesus Christ is unique. It was made entirely by the creative power of God. Jesus was conceived in His mother Mary's womb by a divine, supernatural act of the Holy Spirit. All the blood came from the Father and none from His mother Mary. Jesus was born without Adamic sin stain! The blood of Jesus is also powerful. The bible tells us that by His stripes we are healed. His blood shed at Calvary accomplished this for all mankind.
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53: 5
The blood is mysterious. Jesus' blood alone provides for forgiveness of sins, release from bondage, and deliverance from demonic forces. Jesus fulfilled His proclamation found in Luke 4, when He shed His blood.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord." Luke 4:18-19
The blood of Jesus Christ is the source and carrier of life! When man was created, blood was given by God to sustain human life. Without the blood there is no life! Christ's blood is also the carrier of spiritual life for those who receive Him through faith.
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name; Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12-13
Blood from a sacrifice symbolized cleansing and forgiveness. The sprinkling of blood purified nearly everything. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Under the old covenant animals were sacrificed. Under the new covenant it is the blood of Jesus Christ that brings cleansing and forgiveness, thus life, eternal life!
